Multiple coil repair to large Steinert drum separator
Date published: January 17, 2022
EPMS Limited recently completed the extensive repair of a 2800mm-wide, 1800mm-diameter electromagnetic drum magnet weighing 18 tonnes. The unit was returned to our facility following an electrical failure caused by debris that had entered through the damaged drum skin. This debris led to coil failure, as the coils were blown to earth. Our repair process involved the careful removal and replacement of the damaged coil turns, restoring the internal windings to their original specifications. This meticulous work was completed at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new drum magnet. To prevent future issues, we emphasize the importance of regular maintenance, including inspecting and repairing drum skins and cleaning internal components. Such proactive measures help prevent debris buildup near the windings, which can lead to costly damage to the drum's electromechanical systems.Upon completion of the repairs, the drum received a brand-new skin, new bearings, and thorough testing to ensure its reliability. It was then shipped back to the shredder plant, ready to resume service. This project highlights EPMS Limited’s commitment to delivering cost-effective, high-quality repairs that maximize the lifespan of industrial equipment.
